DESCRIPTION

An eyelid spacer is a device used to treat upper eyelid retraction, which occurs when the eyelid is in an abnormally elevated position. The spacer is a small piece of silicone or similar material that is placed under the skin of the upper eyelid to help lower it to its normal position and improve the appearance of the eye.

The procedure to place a spacer in an eyelid is usually quick and simple, and is performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon will make a small incision in the upper eyelid and place the spacer under the skin. He or she will then suture the incision and place a bandage on the eye to protect it. The patient may experience slight swelling and discomfort after the procedure, but this usually disappears within a few days. An eyelid spacer can be an effective, low-risk solution to correct upper eyelid retraction and improve the appearance of the eye.
